CONTRIBUTE TO OUR THIRD-ANNUAL ALL TOWN POEM!

Happy National Poetry Month!

For the third year in a row, in partnership with the City of Oakland and the Oakland Roots, we will be celebrating Poetry Month by writing together as a Town.

We invite you, your families, your children, your friends, and your classrooms to Write Your Roots with us.

Write Your Roots is an annual all-Town epic poetry project which activates our Oakland community to write a collaborative poem together on the four themes of narrative, embodiment, lineage, and power; inspired by our deep work with thought-partners Studio Pathways. Each year, we weave all the poetry into a beautiful and free book for all.

This year's Write Your Roots poem is on the theme of EMBODIMENT, and will be a poetic opportunity to love your body, love yourself, and show us what love looks like inside you.

You can contribute through our website; in person at the Dept. of Make / Believe; in your classrooms all throughout April; or on Friday, April 29th — Oakland’s official Write Your Roots Day and our Writing Center Grand Opening Celebration.

We cannot wait to weave this year’s poem together with you.
