thank you, quest, for helping us fill our new writing center with writers & words!

The Quest Foundation offered Chapter 510 a $50,000 challenge grant to activate our new Writing Center last year. We’re proud to announce two others joined with Quest to bring our after-school programs to life: The Weinberg Foundation as well as Frances Hellman & Warren Breslau.
It was our very first year back from running remote programming and in our new and magically-designed writing center.

With the help our Quest and many others, we were able to:

  • Start our two-year digital storytelling workshop for teens, Oakland Belonging, which will culminate in a walking audio tour of Swan’s Market this fall.

  • Invite our middle-school poets back for their second year of writing in our Whispering to the Air workshop, culminating in a set of beautifully designed Broadsides.

  • Run our annual picture-book writing workshop for10 3rd-5th graders who all wrote and completed stories about bravery (Illustrated books to be released Dec. 2022).

  • Create and run new fiction-writing workshop, New Origins, for BIPOC LGBTQ+ middle schoolers.

We are so grateful to our funders for bringing our workshops to life!
